DanceFlow
For hip hop and street dance studios

Software for hip hop and street dance studios

Open classes full of drop-ins, members who come four times a week, crews that train together and events with a door. DanceFlow was made for ballroom studios first, and its classes, memberships and events run a street dance studio today.

What it runs on

What a street dance studio runs on, and where it lives in DanceFlow

Each row is something a hip hop studio does every week, beside the part of DanceFlow that does it today.

A week

A week at a street dance studio

Classes, crews and a jam, in one place.

  1. Monday

    The week is online

The week's classes are on your website. A newcomer books a trial class, signs the waiver as they book and arrives as a lead.

  2. Tuesday

    Open class

Members scan the door code; drop-ins pay the class price or use a class pack. The register knows who came and what each place was paid with.

  3. Wednesday

    Crew training

The crew's group chat gets the new rehearsal time, and an announcement reaches the parents of the junior crew.

  4. Friday

    Showcase rehearsal

The running order is set, each number has its music, and the rehearsal is on the calendar, flagging any lesson it clashes with.

  5. Saturday

    The jam

Tickets bought online are scanned on a phone at the door, walk-ins pay there, and the night's takings are in Daily Cash.

Ballroom first

Made for ballroom first, and why that helps a street dance studio

Ballroom studios sell private lessons and count every one, so the money side of DanceFlow is unusually careful: a ledger that is never edited, voids instead of deletions, and what each person owes in one list. A street dance studio that also sells privates, choreography sessions or team fees gets that care as well.

  • Private lessons and choreography sessions with packages that count themselves.
  • Teacher pay per lesson, by percentage or tiered, shown in full before anything is recorded.
  • When a crew travels to a competition, a competition trip keeps who is going, what each dancer owes and the checklist.
What matters most

The parts that matter most to a street dance studio

Each one opens the page that goes deeper.

For studio owners The schedule, memberships and money, for whoever runs the studio. Students and families Dancers and parents book, check in and see what they owe. For teachers Each teacher's classes, their students and lesson mode. Switching to DanceFlow Bring members, families and balances over from a spreadsheet. Every feature Every feature in one list, with what is still to come.
Honest notes

What it does not do yet

What DanceFlow does not do for a street dance studio today, said plainly.

  • Not there yet: Battle brackets and judging are not built. DanceFlow's judging is the Skating System for ballroom, which is not how a battle is decided.
  • Not there yet: The style filter on the public schedule uses DanceFlow's ballroom style list, so hip hop, house or krump live in each class's name rather than in the filter.
  • Not there yet: Unlimited is not a built-in rule yet. A membership can include a set number of classes each period, and the desk can mark any place as no charge.
  • Not there yet: There is no Android app. Dancers on Android use the portal in their phone's browser; the app is for iPhone and iPad.
Questions

Common questions

Can members check themselves in?

Yes. Turn on Members check themselves in under Settings › Studio, then open Door code from the Attendance page. A screen at the door shows a code that changes every minute, and a member scans it with their phone to check in.

Can people book drop-ins on our website?

Yes. Turn on Class schedule on your website, then put each class on the public schedule with its drop-in price. Visitors book a place with their name and contact details, sign your waiver if you require one, and join the waitlist when a class is full.

Can we run a jam or a battle with tickets?

The tickets and the door, yes: ticket kinds with their own prices and limits, a QR code for each, and a door that scans on a phone. A bracket and judging for the battle itself are not built.

How does a crew keep in touch?

Make the crew a group on the Couples & families page and start a group chat with its members. Teachers can send announcements to their own students, and the studio can reach a chosen few.

Is DanceFlow only for ballroom studios?

It was made for ballroom first. The classes, memberships, check-in and events a street dance studio runs on are part of the same product and the same plan, and what is not built yet is on this page. See pricing.
