DanceFlow
For teachers

Built for the teacher standing in the studio

A teacher's day is back-to-back lessons with a phone in a pocket. The software has to answer three questions in under a second, who is next, what did we do last time, and did the last lesson happen, and then get out of the way.

In practice

A teaching day

Back-to-back lessons, a phone in a pocket, and a watch on the wrist if you wear one.

  1. Before the first lesson

    Today, at a glance

The Today widget and Home show the day in order. Open the first lesson and the prep card has last time's notes and what you meant to do next.

  2. 10:00

    Lesson mode

The student on the floor, the note from last time, and Complete. Completing takes the credit off their package, two for a double.

  3. 10:45

A note before the next student walks in

Write what you covered and what to do next time. On Apple Watch, a voice note goes straight into the teaching note.

  4. 11:30

    Tomas did not come

Mark the no-show. If the lesson had already been completed by mistake, the package credit goes back on its own.

  5. Lunch

    Booking requests

A student asked for Thursday at six. Approve it or decline it. Nothing lands on your calendar that you did not agree to.

  6. After a lesson

    A recap for the student

Where the studio has recaps switched on, send what you did and what to practice, with a link to a video or a practice track. How the lesson diary works.

  7. Evening

    Tomorrow, across every studio

My week lists every lesson with its studio beside it, and warns when two studios are too close together to travel between.

In detail

The lesson in front of you

Lesson mode shows the student, what you worked on last time and what you meant to do next, and finishes the lesson in one tap. If they did not come, mark it, and if a lesson was already completed and turns out to be a no-show, the package credit goes back automatically.

  • Notes written in the lesson appear at the top of the next one
  • Private to the studio: the student never reads them
  • Works on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

Your week, whichever studio it belongs to

Many teachers work at more than one studio. My week puts every lesson in one list with the studio beside it, warns when two studios back onto each other with no time to travel, and counts properly: a double lesson is two lessons, a staff meeting is none.

Off sick without ringing round

Mark yourself off and the studio sees which of your lessons need cover and which teachers are free at those times. Handing a lesson over tells the student in the studio's own time zone, not the teacher's.

  • Follow-up reminders for "call her after the school break"
  • A dancer's season plan and syllabus progress on their profile
  • Independent teachers keep their own books as well
Step by step

How the notes carry forward

The point of a teaching note is the next lesson, so that is where it shows up.

  1. Write two things

"What we covered" and "Next time". Short is fine. They are kept on the student, not on you.

  2. They appear in the next lesson

Lesson mode and the prep card open with them, so the lesson starts where the last one ended.

  3. They outlast a change of teacher

A teacher who takes over a student, for a week of cover or for good, reads the history rather than starting again.

  4. Custom fields can join them

A studio can mark a custom field, such as a competition goal, to show in a teacher's lesson prep.

Who sees what

What students and the studio can see

Your teaching notes
Staff-only, enforced in the database. A student never reads them, and no setting changes that.
A recap you send
The student reads it, and both partners for a couple's lesson. It is separate from your notes and shared one lesson at a time.
A student's own notes
Theirs alone. Nobody at the studio reads them.
Studio money
Owners and admins only. You see your own lessons, students and pay.
Getting started

Getting started as a teacher

  1. Get your code from the studio

The studio adds you and gives you a ten-character access code.

  2. Sign in on your phone or the web

The iPhone app or any browser. One account, even if you teach at more than one studio.

  3. Set your availability

It decides when students can request or book you.

  4. Teach

Your lessons are already on your week. Open one and start.

Questions

Common questions

I teach at two studios. Do I need two accounts?

No. One account, and My week shows both studios side by side.

Can students see my lesson notes?

No. What you send a student is a separate recap you choose to share.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. DanceFlow runs on iPhone and iPad, in a web browser, and on Apple Watch for the lesson you are teaching.

Can I see what I will be paid?

Yes. Your insights show your own earnings for the period.

Can students book me directly?

Through the studio's public booking page, using the availability you set. The studio chooses, per teacher, whether that is an instant booking or a request you approve.

I also teach privately, outside any studio. Does that fit?

Yes. An independent practice is its own studio in DanceFlow with its own students and books, and My week shows it alongside the rest. Software for independent teachers.

Part of the same platform

DanceFlow is one system for the whole of ballroom: the studio, the independent teacher, and the competition.
