The short answer
Pro-Am costs four things: lessons with your teacher, the organiser's entry fees, the teacher's fee for dancing each entry with you, and a share of the teacher's travel. Only the first two are published. On the forms we read on 5 November 2026, a Pro-Am single dance cost $25 to $60 to enter and a multi-dance, scholarship or championship event $75 to $500. A private lesson at the studios we read cost $95 to $160. These are typical prices; every competition and every studio sets its own.
Pro-Am is mostly a North American format, and most US Pro-Am competitions are sanctioned by the NDCA. DanceFlow is not NDCA-sanctioned. The NDCA does not set entry fees: each organiser publishes its own, and those are the figures here.
The lessons
Pro-Am is learnt in private lessons with the teacher you dance with, so for most dancers the lessons are the biggest part of the cost. The lesson cost guide lists published prices: $95 to $160 for one private lesson at the US studios we read, less in a package. How many lessons you take a week decides the year; the calculator works it out.

The package has cost less than single lessons from lesson 9 of 10.
The package's $850 would buy this many single lessons: 8.9.
Lessons in the package: 10. At this pace they last this many weeks: 5.

| Yankee Classic, youth form (2026) | $25 a dance | $75 for 3 dances to $125 for 5 |
At the United States Dance Championships a scholarship entered without single dances costs double. Entry fees rarely include admission: Capital Dancesport's form says its fees do not.
Most competitions add late fees and card fees: the United States Dance Championships charges $20 a person after its first deadline and $50 after the second, and 4 percent on cards; the Atlantic DanceSport Challenge $50 a person after its deadline and 4 percent on cards; Dancing à la Carte 5 percent on cards.
The teacher's fee and travel
On top of each entry, the studio usually charges a teacher's fee (a pro fee), because the teacher dances every heat with you, and splits the teacher's travel, hotel and meals between the students the teacher dances with at that event. Some studios sell a competition package instead: a set number of entries with the travel share included.
We could not find a US studio or independent teacher that publishes its Pro-Am teacher fee, so this page gives none. Ask your studio for it per dance, in writing, before you enter, with how the travel is split.
Putting it together
For one competition, add the entries, the teacher's fee for each, any registration or admission, your own travel and hotel, your share of the teacher's travel, and any extra coaching. The competition budget calculator adds these up for one event and for a season, with your own figures in place of its starting ones. The competition cost guide has the published tickets and hotel rates.
Outside the US
Pro-Am is danced in Canada and at some events elsewhere, but we found no published Pro-Am entry form outside the US to quote, so this page gives no price for other countries. Amateur entry fees in the UK and at WDSF events in Europe are in the competition cost guide.
For studios
DanceFlow keeps each student's entries, the teacher's fees, the travel split and who owes what in one place. See season planning.
