What it is

Svenska Danssportförbundet was founded in Stockholm in 1968 and joined the Swedish Sports Confederation in 1977. It is Sweden's member of WDSF and covers many dance styles besides Standard and Latin, including rock'n'roll and street styles.

Members

Its 2025 yearbook counts 41,432 members in 180 clubs at the end of 2025, and 2,986 licensed competitive dancers. The clubs are organised in nine district federations.

Licences and judges. Competitors hold a licence; the highest ranking competitions need a full competitor licence, and one-off licences exist for single events. Judges are licensed at C, B and A levels.

Main events

Swedish Championships (SM) are held for Junior, Youth, Adult, Senior and Grand Senior couples in the A and B classes, with district championships and Grand Prix ranking competitions below them.

How it is governed

The federation meeting (förbundsmöte) of member clubs is the supreme body and elects the federation board (förbundsstyrelse), which leads the federation between meetings. The current board is listed on the federation's site.
